Take A Stroll Down Memory Lane With “Music Matters”

The first Music Matters was on March 5, 2014. Prior to that Crook and Victoria hosted a meeting at the Ghetto Palace to include the Mayor, City commissioners, business owners and our local musicians. The Mayor and 3 commissioners were present as were several business owners and musicians. They proposed to begin a music scene in Downtown Panama City – Harrison Ave. specifically – to encourage locals and tourists alike to come downtown to shop, dine, drink, and listen to live local music.

Music Matters has created a “tipping culture” for downtown. This way the musicians pay could be augmented with tips making it more appealing for them to play downtown. Trigo’s was the first to jump on board and have a musician on their front patio, then Millie’s also stepped up. Wednesdays were a better night for local musicians to perform, so they wouldn’t compete with higher paid acts at larger venues on weekends.

As it turned out – it worked and within 2 months the musicians were getting paid! Not long after, Ferrucci’s Ristorante decided to have live dinner music and The Place would have musicians play on the front patio. The Colonial *Now Patsy’s joined in and even Avenue Sea had music for their wine tasting event.

Millie’s and Trigo’s has stuck around the longest, and still have live music at their locations! Visit Facebook page at Musicmatterspcfla for more information and a schedule!

“Everyone does not have to participate in Music Matters – but we would love for all restaurants to have music!! We are always happy to promote and usually share all posts regarding local, live music everywhere! We hope this trend continues to grow and more businesses hire local musicians.”
